Madame Web’: Emma Roberts Joins Sony Marvel Pic
Posted by admin on June 27th, 2022

Emma Roberts is the latest addition to the ensemble cast of Sony Pictures’ Madame Web starring Dakota Johnson. Also on board are Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced and Tahar Rahim for director S.J. Clarkson. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless penned the screenplay, with Kerem Sanga writing a previous draft.

Sony had no comment on Roberts’ casting Monday.

In the comics, Madame Web is depicted as an elderly woman with myasthenia gravis and thus was connected to a life-support system that looked like a spider web. Due to her age and medical condition, Madame Web never actively fought any villains. For that reason, sources have stressed it’s possible the project could turn into something else. Insiders say that due to her psychic sensory powers, she is essentially Sony’s version of Doctor Strange. Roberts’ role in the film in unknown.

Sony is coming off a hot streak with Venom: Let There Be Carnage making more than $500 million worldwide, while Spider-Man: No Way Home was the biggest film of 2021 with $1.85 billion in worldwide sales.

For Roberts, this will mark her first Marvel pic after recently wrapping production on the upcoming rom-com Maybe I Do, which also stars Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon and Richard Gere. She also continues to be a go-to for new seasons of American Horror Story, most recently appearing in American Horror Story: 1984.

Roberts has also been active on the producing front as she is working on developing projects she isn’t necessarily starring in. One of her biggest producing credits is on the Netflix series First Kill.

She is repped by CAA and manager David Sweeney.

Emma Roberts-Produced Drama ‘Tell Me Lies’ Ordered to Series at Hulu, Grace Van Patten to Star
Posted by admin on August 5th, 2021

Hulu has given a series order to the drama “Tell Me Lies,” based on the book of the same name by Carola Lovering. Grace Van Patten will star in the series with Emma Roberts executive producing.

The series follows a tumultuous but intoxicating relationship as it unfolds over the course of 8 years. When Lucy Albright (Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco meet at college, they are at that formative age when seemingly mundane choices lead the way to irrevocable consequences. Although their relationship begins like any typical campus romance, they quickly fall into an addictive entanglement that will permanently alter not only their lives, but the lives of everyone around them.

Lucy is further described as a sheltered but well-adjusted girl from an affluent Long Island town. Her acerbic humor and often cool demeanor has earned her the label of “Ice Queen” among her friends. But beneath her confident façade Lucy is hiding a childhood trauma that has left her feeling disconnected from her peers. When she meets Stephen, Lucy sees a dark streak in him that she recognizes in herself, and will inadvertently bring her demons to light.

“Tell Me Lies” was first announced as being in development at Hulu back in September 2020 as part of a first-look deal Roberts and her Belletrist TV banner signed with the streamer.

Meaghan Oppenheimer will executive produce and write the pilot. Roberts and Belletrist co-founder Karah Preiss executive produce along with Laura Lewis for Rebelle Media and Shannon Gibson for Vice Studios. Matt Matruski will oversee for Belletrist, with Stephanie Noonan overseeing for Rebelle Media and Sam Schlaifer overseeing for Vice-owned Refinery29. Lovering will serve as a consulting producer. 20th Television is the studio.

Van Patten will next be seen in the Hulu series “Nine Perfect Strangers.” She has also been seen in features such as “The Meyerowitz Stories,” “A Violent Heart,” “Good Posture,” and “Under the Silver Lake.”

She is repped by WME, Brookside Artist Management, and The Lede Company.

Emma Roberts Welcomes Her Brand-New Holidate, a Baby Boy Named Rhodes
Posted by admin on December 30th, 2020

He arrived too late to attend any Christmas parties, and God knows we weren’t having them this year anyway, but on Monday TMZ reported that Emma Roberts welcomed her first child, a baby boy, with boyfriend Garrett Hedlund. According to their source, the Holidate actress gave birth on Sunday, December 27, in Los Angeles, to a little boy named Rhodes, joining Gucci Mane’s wife Keyshia Ka’oir Davis in the Perfectly Timed Quarantine Pregnancy Club.

In August, Roberts shared an Instagram photo that served as both a pregnancy announcement and a mercifully conflagration-free gender reveal. “Me…and my two favorite guys,” she wrote, posing with Hedlund and her baby bump. The pair went public with their relationship in March of last year, after Roberts ended her five-year engagement to longtime on-again, off-again partner and American Horror Story co-star, Evan Peters. So, welcome to 2020, Rhodes Roberts-Hedlund. We promise it’ll be over very, very soon.

Emma Roberts To Produce YA Vampire Series ‘First Kill’ At Netflix
Posted by admin on October 16th, 2020

Netflix has handed a series order to First Kill, a YA vampire series based on the short story by New York Times bestselling author Victoria “V. E.” Schwab, with American Horror Story and Scream Queens star Emma Roberts set to produce via her Belletrist Productions. The eight-episode, one-hour series was created, written and executive produced by Schwab. Felicia D. Henderson (The Punisher, Empire) also writes and serves as showrunner.

Schwab’s short story was published in Imprint’s Vampires Never Get Old: Tales with Fresh Bite by Natalie C. Parker and Zoraida Córdova, a collection of short stories about vampires that was released in September.

It was a highly competitive situation, we hear, with Belletrist Productions winning the rights over 18 other entities.
In First Kill, when it’s time for teenage vampire Juliette to make her first kill so she can take her place among a powerful vampire family, she sets her sights on a new girl in town named Calliope. But much to Juliette’s surprise, Calliope is a vampire hunter, from a family of celebrated slayers. Both find that the other won’t be so easy to kill and, unfortunately, way too easy to fall for.

2020 Netflix Pilots & Series Orders

Roberts and Belletrist co-founder Karah Preiss serve as executive producers.

Under her first-look deal with Hulu, Roberts, via Belletrist, is adapting Carola Lovering’s Tell Me Lies as a television series. Roberts also is attached to star with UK comedian Jack Whitehall in comedy feature Robots, directed by Anthony Hines. She recently wrapped a starring role in Tiffany Paulsen’s upcoming film Holidate, with John Whitesell directing, for Netflix. Roberts is repped by CAA, Sweeney Entertainment and Felker Toczek

Henderson is a consulting producer on Fox series neXt and recently served as consulting producer on Empire. She co-created and executive produced the BET series, The Quad, and spent two years as a co-executive producer on Netflix’s The Punisher. She also developed and executive produced Showtime’s long-running drama series Soul Food.

Henderson’s writing career began in half-hour comedy with stints on Everybody Hates Chris, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and Moesha.

Schwab is repped by CAA and Root Literary.
